A VERY WARM WELCOME TO old.holyhead.com!! The original web site for Holyhead, that has been a comprehensive guide to our town since May 5th 1998! Please e-mail your comments or queries to Ann - sbreeze95@aol.com

To navigate your way through this web site it is as easy as clicking to the SITE MAP. There you will see four main categories PHOTOS, LOCAL HISTORY, LOCAL INTEREST and TOURIST INFORMATION. However before you do that just scroll down this page as there are some things you might find interesting if you are local or a tourist.

In the PHOTOS section there is a large listing of photos sent to me by both local people and expats. These range from the days of the WAR right up to the PRESENT DAY. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have sent them to me. It is very much appreciated!. When I planned the pages of old.holyhead.com, I had in mind future generations who will hopefully be searching through these photos to see what HOLYHEAD was like in the past. There are of course photos of current interest - things like the construction of the A55 road into Holyhead and the building of the Penrhos Retail Park and the Celtic Gateway bridge. I hope you enjoy this section and if you have photos you would like to add please get in touch! Thanks!

In the LOCAL INTEREST section are mainly things that would be of interest to the people of HOLYHEAD like Community News, WHAT's ON page - so you can see what's on in Holyhead at the moment.

In the LOCAL HISTORY section is a wealth of information about just that! If you have intesting stories or history information about HOLYHEAD please E-mail if you would like it added to the local history of HOLYHEAD. Thanks! A Tribute to

John Cave M.B.E

John taking video film of the presentation day in Thomas Ellis school in June 2017.

On Friday 15th June 2018 the Holyhead Maritime Museum made a statement which shocked and saddened the people of Holyhead to the core. The statement read It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our President and great friend Mr. John Cave MBE. It was his commitment and enthusiasm that established the Maritime Museum over 30 years ago. His contribution to the community of Holyhead is immeasurable. He will be greatly missed by all at the museum, his many friends and throughout the town. Our heartfelt condolences to his wife Margaret, daughter Sue and family".

Mr. Richard Burnell. This photo was taken in Thomas Ellis School in June 2017 when Richard and John took photos and video on presentation day when the school was closing

Former Vice President of Holyhead's Maritime Museum in Newry beach, Mr Richard Burnell has also paid great tributes to his best friend in the local newspapers and social media. He has also been generous posting photos of John on Facebook for us all to see. Richard and John were very often seen in and around Holyhead speaking to people and taking photographs.
John was involved in many of Holyhead's organisations. Amongst which was the Sea Cadets Unit in Newry beach of which he was a long term member. He was a committee member there and a trainer.
In the 1960s John has been a lifeboat crewman and had kept in contact with the station ever since.
John was a real gentle - man, who was loved and respected by everyone in Holyhead. He had a great sense of humour and a gentle voice. He made everyone who spoke to him feel special. He was a caring, warm man, who will be remembered for many many years by all those who knew him.
Our sincere condolences go to Johns family and to his friends. He will be sadly missed by the people of Holyhead whom I am sure will be talking about our very own Mr Holyhead for many years to come.
